In Sverdlovsk Region manager of furniture shop found guilty of reckless homicide of three-year-old boy who died when wardrobe fell on him

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by Sverdlovsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee enough to convict a 30-year-old woman who worked as a manager in a separate affiliate of a furniture shop. She was found guilty of a crime under part 2 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide due to improper discharge of professional duties).

The court and investigators have revealed that in the evening of 2 July 2013, a three-year-old boy together with his parents was in the furniture shop housed in a department store in Repin Street in the city of Yekaterinburg. An unfixed angular wardrobe fell on the boy. The child received a closed brain injury of which he died at a hospital on 18 July 2013.

During the investigation it was found that the woman had failed to properly discharge her professional duties to ensure safety of people inside the shop which eventually led to the tragedy.

The court sentenced the accused to 3 years in prison.
