Suspects of killing Great Patriotic War veteran and his wife held in Irkutsk

Irkutsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigating a criminal case over the murder of a veteran of the Great Patriotic War and his wife, a crime under part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder of two people).

Thanks to efficiently planned and carried out investigative and search operations investigators of the regional investigative committee and officials of the Irkutsk Region Main Office of the Ministry of the Interior have managed to identify and hold suspects of killing an elderly couple.

According to investigators, in the evening of 5 March 2015, law-enforcement bodies received a report that there was a crime committed against residents of one of the flats in a building in Zverev street, Irkutsk. An investigating team including senior officials of the directorate and police officers found there dead bodies of a 87-year-old man and 83-year-old woman with signs of violent death. It was revealed that the man was a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. Some money was stolen from the flat.

At present restraint is under discussion and the motive of the crime is being established. Investigation of crimes committed against socially vulnerable categories of citizens and especially veterans of the Great Patriotic War has always been under special control of the Investigative Committee senior officials.
