Activity of criminal community headed by Head of Komi Republic broken up

The Federal Security Service and the Russia’s Investigative Committee have stopped the activity of a criminal community headed by Head of the Komi Republic Vyacheslav Gayzer, his deputy Alexey Chernov and Alexander Zarubin and Valery Veselov.

On 18 September 2015, the Major Investigation Directorate of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal investigation against 19 leaders and members of the criminal community who committed crimes under articles 210 (setting a criminal community) and 159 (fraud) of the RF Penal Code in the period between 2006 and 2015.

The objective of the community led by Zarubin, Gayzer, Chernov and Veselov was to commit felonies in order to get hold of state-owned property.

It should be noted that the community developed huge activity with interregional and international crimes, hierarchical structure, solidarity and close connection between its leaders and members with strict subordination, well-organized secrecy and protection against law-enforcement authorities.

At present, urgent investigative and search operations are under way to identify and apprehend people involved in the crimes.
