In Sakhalin Region preliminary check launched in derailment of passenger train killing person

On 3 November 2014, at around 6 PM, local time, a passenger train travelling from Kholmsk to Tomari derailed near Chekhov railway station. An assistant driver was killed in the accident. The investigating bodies of the Far Eastern Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a pre-investigating check into the incident.

According to the preliminary version the cause of the accident was erosion of the railways.

At present investigators are working at the scene. A number of investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident. A procedural decision will be made following the check.
