Chairman of the IC of Russia Instructs to Establish Circumstances of Using Anti-Personnel Lepestok Mines

The Chairman of the IC of Russia has instructed the Central Office to establish the circumstances of using prohibited ammunition by Ukrainian nationalists within the criminal case investigation.

According to the available information, Ukrainian troops used cluster charges carrying prohibited Lepestok antipersonnel mines when shelling the city of Popasnaya in Donbass. Such charges are dropped from unmanned aerial vehicles. In addition, there are reports of using anti-personnel shrapnel mines and mines filled with metal darts.

It is a gross violation of the provisions of the Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of the Use of Anti-Personnel Mines, which establishes that each state party undertakes never to use anti-personnel mines under any circumstances. Ukraine has ratified this convention.

The investigators will document the consequences of using the prohibited ammunition, as well as conduct the required examinations and other investigative actions to establish all the details of the incidents and Ukrainian nationalists involved in these crimes.
